How are loading metres (LDM) calculated?
For part loads, road freight is often priced by how much trailer length the cargo takes up: its loading metres. A standard trailer is about 2.4 metres wide, so the formula is:
LDM = (length x width) / 2.4
That makes one Euro pallet (1.2 x 0.8 m) about 0.4 LDM and one industrial pallet (1.2 x 1.0 m) about 0.5 LDM. Stackable cargo takes up less.
