Intermodal Transport
We combine transport modes in one plan to balance cost, time and security.
In intermodal transport the cargo stays in the same container or loading unit while it travels by more than one mode. It might go by truck to the port, by ship to the destination port, and on by train or truck to the buyer.
We treat the journey as one end-to-end plan rather than separate legs. Because the cargo is not unpacked at each transfer, handling goes down and so does the risk of damage or loss.
The right combination gives you the best balance of cost and time. We work out together which route makes the most sense for your cargo.
What is the difference between intermodal and multimodal?
Both use more than one transport mode. In intermodal transport the cargo stays in the same unit and is not handled at transfers. Multimodal usually means the whole journey runs under a single contract.
When does intermodal make sense?
On long routes crossing several regions, where a single mode would be either too expensive or too slow.
